The RSPB and the German Embassy in London would like to invite you to a panel discussion on Monday 16th December to address the question: “Who will lead for Europe’s Environment? Perspectives from Brussels, Berlin and London”
It will be a very timely moment for this discussion. The German coalition talks will be drawing to their conclusion, the UK government will have published its review of the balance of power on the environment between Brussels and London, and the campaign for the next European elections will be about to begin.
Speakers will include:
Karl Falkenberg - Director General of the Environment Directorate of the European Commission
(TBC) Professor Klaus Töpfer – Former Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme and Executive Director of the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS) at Potsdam
Professor Miranda Schreurs – Professor of Comparative Politics at the Freie Universität in Berlin, member of the German Advisory Council on the Environment
Nick Robins – visiting Business Fellow at the Oxford Smith School for Environment and Enterprise, head of the HSBC Centre for Climate Change Excellence
Professor Michael Grubb – Chair of Energy and Climate Policy at the University of Cambridge, member of the UK’s Climate Change Committee
The evening will be informed by a report which the RSPB has commissioned from the Fabian Society in London on the future of European environmental politics. The Fabians are looking at how to gather the political will for international environmental action in Europe. Their report will form the backdrop to the debate.
