The chair of the EEAC Energy Working group has launched a discussion paper, welcoming the long-term targets for a low carbon and competitive European Economy, formulated by the Commission Communication from March 2011. However he warns against an unjustified underestimation of the low cost potential of renewable sources, especially in the electricity sector. There are serious doubts if other low carbon sources are equivalent as regards cost, risk, sustainability and acceptance.
